York Regional Police Arrest Suspect in Nine Markham Home Break-Ins

York Regional Police have charged a suspect in connection with a series of nine residential break-and-enters that targeted homes across Markham over a four-month period. The arrest follows an investigation by the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau that resulted in the execution of two search warrants at residences in the City of Toronto.

The Investigation

According to police, the break-ins occurred between November 28, 2025, and March 20, 2026. The suspect is alleged to have committed the burglaries during evening hours, targeting residential properties across the city. The pattern of evening-hour entries and the geographic spread across Markham suggested a single individual operating repeatedly in the area.

On March 24, 2026, officers executed two search warrants at residences in the City of Toronto and arrested the suspect. Neville Ricky Young, 39, of the City of Toronto, has been charged with six counts of Break and Enter Commit, three counts of Break and Enter with Intent, and four counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated that additional charges are anticipated as investigators continue to examine evidence recovered during the search warrant executions.

Police Advice on Home Security

In connection with the arrest, York Regional Police issued a reminder to residents about maintaining the security of their homes. The advisory is particularly relevant given that the break-ins occurred during evening hours, when many homes may appear unoccupied.

Key recommendations from police include:

  • Always maintain the appearance that your home is occupied, even when you are away. Use timers on lights and electronics to simulate activity inside the house.
  • Ensure all entry points, including doors, windows, and garage access, are secured with functioning locks.
  • Consider installing a security camera system, particularly at entry points. Visible cameras serve as both a deterrent and a valuable source of evidence if an incident occurs.
  • Do not leave valuables visible from outside, including in vehicles parked in driveways.
  • Get to know your neighbours and establish communication channels so that unusual activity can be reported quickly.
  • Report any suspicious activity to York Regional Police by calling 1-866-876-5423.

How to Report Information

Anyone with information related to these break-ins or similar incidents in Markham is asked to contact the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, extension 7545. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at www.1800222tips.com.

The arrest demonstrates the value of sustained investigation and community awareness. Markham residents who notice unfamiliar vehicles, people, or unusual activity in their neighbourhoods are encouraged to report it promptly, even if it turns out to be nothing. Early reports can help police identify patterns and respond before additional incidents occur.
