Best Patios in Markham for Summer 2026: 12 Spots Locals Love

Markham's patio season runs from roughly mid-May to early October — a precious window where the city's restaurants throw open their doors, string up the lights, and turn parking lots, courtyards, and rooftops into outdoor living rooms. With the 2026 season officially upon us, we've spent the last few weeks eating, drinking, and sweating through this list so you don't have to.

These are the 12 Markham patios our editors think are genuinely worth your time this summer — picked for atmosphere, food quality, comfort (yes, there are shade considerations), and that hard-to-define something that makes you want to stay for one more drink. They span Downtown Markham, Unionville's Main Street, the Highway 7 corridor, and a few surprises tucked into plazas you've probably driven past a hundred times.

1. Old Country House — Unionville Main Street

If you haven't done a summer evening in Unionville, start here. The historic stretch of Main Street Unionville is one of the most charming patio environments in the GTA, and Old Country House anchors the southern end with a tree-shaded patio that feels like it was airlifted in from Niagara wine country. The menu leans European bistro — confit duck, schnitzel, a respectable cheese board — and the wine list is much better than it has any right to be at this price point.

Reservation tip: weekends fill up by Thursday. Aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 7:30 to catch the golden hour without the noise.

2. Pampas Brazilian Steakhouse Patio — Downtown Markham

Downtown Markham's purpose-built sidewalks were made for patios, and Pampas takes full advantage. The skewer-by-skewer rodízio service feels even more theatrical outdoors, the staff are unfailingly cheerful, and there's enough shade umbrellas that you can actually have a midday lunch without melting. Strong negroni game too.

This is a special-occasion patio rather than a casual drop-in — expect to spend $80+ per person — but for an anniversary dinner or a milestone birthday, the atmosphere genuinely delivers.

3. The Earl of Whitchurch — Stouffville Road

Technically a 10-minute drive north of Markham proper, but worth the detour. This English-pub-style patio has the best view-to-noise ratio in the area: rolling fields behind it, light traffic in front, and a kitchen that knows how to do a proper fish and chips. Great for a weekend afternoon after running errands.

4. SilverSpoon Mediterranean — First Markham Place

People sleep on First Markham Place for evening dining, but SilverSpoon's covered patio (with retractable roof — useful in our climate) is one of the most pleasant outdoor spaces in the area. The grilled-octopus appetizer and the lamb chops are the moves. Bring a group; the sharing-style menu rewards it.

5. Wildflour Bakery & Café — Unionville

For brunch and daytime patio sitting, Wildflour is hard to beat. The patio out back is small but quiet, the pastries are made in-house, and the coffee is the best in Unionville without trying too hard. Skip the line on Saturdays by going Sunday around 10:00 instead.

6. Frontera Tex-Mex — Cathedral Town

Cathedral Town's restaurant strip is one of Markham's most overlooked outdoor dining clusters, and Frontera's patio is the standout. Strong margaritas, fresh chips and salsa brought to the table without asking, and an outdoor speaker setup that doesn't feel intrusive. Goes from "early dinner with kids" to "drinks with friends" as the sun goes down.

7. Sushi Kaji — Highway 7

An unlikely entry — Sushi Kaji is best known for its omakase counter — but they opened a small alley-side patio in 2024 that's now one of the most coveted summer-night seats in Markham. Eight tables, a tightly edited à la carte menu, and a level of service you'd expect from somewhere four times the price. Reservations open exactly 30 days out. Set a calendar reminder.

8. The Keg Markham — Don Mills Road

Yes, it's a chain. Yes, the patio is consistently great. The Keg's Markham location has the rare combination of legitimately good food, a patio big enough that you can usually walk in for a table on a Tuesday, and a wine-by-the-glass program that doesn't insult you. For a low-effort summer dinner where everyone leaves happy, this is the move.

9. Bar Chef — Downtown Markham

A cocktail-forward spot with a sleek covered patio facing a fountain plaza. The menu is small plates designed for sharing, but you're really here for the drinks. Their take on the Negroni Sbagliato is genuinely excellent, and the bartenders will absolutely build you something off-menu if you give them a flavour direction.

10. La Forchetta — Markville Mall Area

An Italian neighbourhood spot with a side patio that the staff treat like the dining room — meaning service is just as attentive, even when there are 30 people outside. The pasta is hand-made and changes seasonally, the tiramisu is house-made, and the bread basket is bottomless.

11. Aroma Espresso Bar — Multiple Locations

For when you want a patio but not a commitment. Aroma's locations across Markham (Downtown Markham, First Markham Place, and the Markville area) all have outdoor seating, and the menu is a Mediterranean-Israeli mash-up that works whether you want a quick coffee, a hearty sabich sandwich, or a fresh salad. Family-friendly, dog-friendly, and reliably consistent.

12. The Buttonville Brew Co. — Buttonville

A craft brewery that opened in late 2024 in the old Buttonville Airport area, with a sprawling beer-garden patio that's become one of summer's best spots. The flights are well-curated, the rotating food trucks are good (check social before you go for the lineup), and the picnic-table seating is genuinely family-friendly.

How to plan a Markham patio crawl

If you want to string a few of these together into a memorable summer evening, here's our recommended route. Start at Wildflour for an early afternoon coffee and pastry. Walk Main Street Unionville, then drive 10 minutes south to The Buttonville Brew Co. for a flight. Head to Frontera for an early dinner around 6:00, then end at Bar Chef in Downtown Markham for cocktails. Three different neighbourhoods, four different vibes, and a summer night that actually feels like a summer night.

A quick note on reservations

2026 has been an unusually busy patio season — likely because the spring was so cold that pent-up demand is hitting all at once. Reserve at least a week ahead for weekends. Most of the spots above are on OpenTable; the indie spots (Wildflour, Frontera, Buttonville Brew Co.) take reservations by phone or via Instagram DM.
