Summer in Markham is when the city's events calendar comes alive. From massive cultural festivals that draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to intimate neighbourhood concerts, here's your complete guide to the 2026 Markham summer event season.

Taste of Asia — June 27–28

The largest pan-Asian street festival in North America returns to Downtown Markham. Expect 100+ food vendors representing East, Southeast, and South Asian cuisines, two main stages with live performances, and a tea ceremony pavilion. Entry is free; cash-preferred at vendor stalls. Best arrival time is 11:30 AM Saturday — beat the lunch rush and the heat.

Markham Night Market — Every Friday/Saturday in July & August

The night market has expanded to 70+ vendors for 2026, with new permanent installations including a Taiwanese stinky tofu specialist, a Korean corn dog stall, and an underrated dessert vendor doing fresh-fried egg waffles. Located at Splendid China Tower's parking lot, running 6:00 PM to midnight.

Unionville Festival — June 13–14

This small-town summer staple takes over historic Main Street Unionville. Heritage crafts, classic-car displays, live music on three stages, and food from the local restaurants. Family-friendly and dog-friendly; bring sunscreen because there is limited shade.

Markham Jazz Festival — July 18–20

Now in its 28th year. The festival anchors at Toogood Pond Park with three days of free concerts featuring Canadian and international jazz artists. Bring a blanket and a cooler; food vendors on-site, but the lines get long.

Doors Open Markham — August 22

A free, one-day event where typically-closed historic buildings open to the public. The 2026 edition adds the recently restored Markham Museum and a new walking tour through historic Buttonville.

Canada Day at Milne Dam Conservation Park — July 1

The fireworks show is one of the best in the GTA. Get there by 7:00 PM to claim a spot on the south lawn. Parking fills early — the YRT runs extra Route 1 buses from Markham GO and Unionville GO.

How to make the most of festival season

A few practical tips for navigating Markham's summer event lineup: budget at least $20-40 per person for food at any street festival; bring cash for vendor stalls (cards work most places but lines move faster with cash); wear comfortable shoes; and check social media the morning of for last-minute changes or weather updates.
